Encourage you to discuss what you've watched boosting your speaking and listening skills.
Build confidence in expressing your thoughts and opinions in English.

Help you feel comfortable with similar people who know the challenges of learning English and who relish meaningful connections.

Provide insights into different cultures and societal norms, helping you understand context and cultural nuances in language use.

Make language learning feel less like a chore and more like a leisure activity.

Help you to develop critical thinking skills and the ability to express more complex ideas in English.

Make you feel part of a community - support each other, share insights, and build relationships, making the experience more rewarding and less isolating.

I definitely recommend participating in the Abbie’s film club. Abbie leads the conversation as a professional moderator and she has a nice list of questions which immediately gives you a lot of new thoughts about characters and/or the screenplay. Also, I appreciate the lightness in the conversations, you feel a freedom to speak and express your opinion. It really helps me to see the progress I have made since I started learning English with Abbie.

Hey! I'm Abbie...
I have a deep passion for the benefits of film and literature as part of an English learners journey. They expose learners to authentic language use, cultural nuances, and varied contexts, which helps reinforce what they learn in class and provides additional opportunities for practice.
In my view, the biggest obstacle to speaking English is a lack of confidence. My students typically have strong comprehension skills (B1, B1+, B2, and C1), but they often don't realise it. They need a place to practice that is supportive and encouraging. I've put a lot of effort into creating such environments in my one-to-one teaching, book and film clubs and conversation classes, where everyone feels appreciated, can learn from their mistakes without fear of judgment, and has a great time.
-
What is the structure of a typical one-on-one class? Each class is structured around your goals, including a mix of speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities. We will focus on practical usage and real-life scenarios to enhance your fluency and confidence.
-
How often can the classes take place?Classes are scheduled based on your and my availability and preferences, typically ranging from once to several times per week.
-
Do I need to purchase any materials for the class? All necessary materials will be provided, though having a notebook and pen for taking notes is recommended. Occasionally, I might suggest additional resources such as books or films.
-
Can I reschedule a class if something comes up?Yes, I offer flexible scheduling. You can reschedule a class with at least 24 hours' notice.
